Event dedicated to the commemoration of the Armenian Genocide

On April 24, a memorial ceremony dedicated to the 104th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide was organised in front of the khachkar in memory of the victims of the Armenian Genocide at the premises of St. Gregory the Illuminator Church in Odessa.

A memorial service was held by the pastor of the Armenian Apostolic Church in Odessa, Ter-Abgar Kelejyan.

Gevorg Petrossian, Consul General of Armenia in Odessa, Samvel Tigranyan, President of the Armenian community of Odessa, deputies of the Odessa Regional Council and Ukrainian-Armenians participated in the event.

The attendees laid flowers at the memorial of the innocent victims of the Armenian Genocide, followed by a candlelight vigil.

In his speech, G. Petrossian emphasised that the genocide is a serious crime against humanity which is condemned by the international community. Denial of the genocide is not only a violation of the rights and dignity of a genocide-stricken nation, but also undermines the foundations of international law and universal morality, as well as relations between nations and peoples. The Consul General emphasised that the international fight against genocide is an integral component of Armenia's foreign policy. Nothing has been forgotten and Armenia's motto is "I remember and demand".

After the service, a flashmob was organised by the Armenian youth of Odessa, after which a play organised by the Armenian Sunday School in Odessa was staged at the Armenian cultural centre.
